Severe Cases Of Acne Part Three
After you have seen the dermatologist and you have picked up the medication that was requested you usually feel relieved. It seems a solution to your problems with acne is finally within reach. The mistake that many people make is that once the bumps and signs of acne begin to disappear they stop taking the medication the doctor prescribed. Acne is a disease that is deeper that what we see on the surface of the skin. Most people must continue to take their acne medication for an extended period of time to prevent or reduce the severity of future flare ups. Usually with moderate cases of acne using the prescribed medication correctly prevents any lasting scars and skin disfiguration. If you have decided not to seek the advice of a dermatologist and have made up your mind to self-medicate keep these tips in mind. Try to avoid any harsh cleansers or astringents since they may irritate the skin. Many acne products have benzoyl in them and other chemicals with alcoholic properties. Be careful no matter how much the skin itches or tickles never to scratch or squeeze acne bumps. The myth is that acne is caused by dirt clogging the pores and scrubbing the face roughly and thoroughly will remove this dirt and cure acne. The reality is that acne is caused by many different factors and doctors have been unable to put their finger on any one thing that causes acne. If dirt caused acne every football player would have a bad case of acne. If sweat caused acne every athlete would have a bad case of acne. Since they do not there must be more to the entire acne phenomenon. Excessive washing of acne infected skin agitates the skin and usually rubs the skin raw worsening the condition. If you see that with time and treatment your acne is not getting any better you may have Gram-Negative Folliculitis.
“Gram-Negative Folliculitis”
If you have gram-negative folliculitis it may not be your fault. In fact unless you have been diagnosed with gram-negative folliculitis you may never even have heard this term used before. Gran-negative folliculitis is normally caused by a bacterial infection characterized by cysts or pustules. Sadly this disease has been linked to long-term use of antibiotics in the treatment of other acne complications. There is no evidence that says which sex male or female in which the disease is more prevalent. The good thing about this disease is that it is very rare and many people never catch it. If you find a rash or irritation in the skin or worsening of your acne symptoms make sure to consult a dermatologist as soon as possible. If treated properly most outbreaks will not cause permanent scarring. Though not as bad as other forms of acne this disease can cause minor scarring and should be treated carefully. Make sure to follow the instructions of your doctor and take all prescribed medication as instructed. If you find it difficult to deal with the negative emotions that may arise from having severe cases of acne seek the help of a therapist. Acne is a serious affliction and should be treated as such.
