Perfume Ingredients
Perfumes are made by mixing one or more aromas extracted from plants leaves, flowers, husk, wood and spices. Some fragrances are taken form animals. Among the sources, plants have long been used in making perfumes. It is the largest source of fragrances. Let’s see what parts of plants are extracted to form an aroma.
Bark, this include cinnamon and cascarilla. The oil of sassafras root bark is also used as a combination of other fragrant compounds.
Flowers and blossoms these are the widest source of aromatics. Flowers of all kinds’ species either a bud or full bloom flowers are being used to form an aroma.
Fruits fresh fruits such as apples, strawberry, cherries unluckily does not come up with the expected odors when extracted. If this fragrances are smelled in a perfume that perfume is made of synthetic aromas. What we can extract aroma from fruits are the citrus’ family such as oranges, lemon and lime. Grapefruit when extracted can also produces an aroma but because of its sulfur content, this fruit is not used in perfume because as time goes by its aroma degenerate and gives unpleasant smell. So like apple, strawberry and cherry Grapefruit scent is also synthesized.
Leaves and twigs are commonly used for perfumes. They are lavender leaves, pachoulli sage leaves, violet leaves, rosemary leaves, tomato leaves, hay leaves and citrus leaves. The greener the leaves the more aromatic it’s smell.
Resins are valued since the old times it is used as incense in the old times. Perfumes with resins has a dual benefit, perfume and antiseptic.
Roots, rhizomes and bulbs which includes iris rhizomes, veviter roots and ginger rhizomes are often used in men’s perfumes.
Seeds such as tonka beans, carrot seeds, coriander seeds, caraway seeds, cocoa beans, nutmeg, maize, and anise seeds are also a good ingredients in making a perfume.
Woods trivia is an important ingredient in making an aroma or perfume, woods are concocted and extracted to produced oil. Frequently used woods are sandalwood, rosewood, birch wood, cedar wood, juniper tree and pine tree.
Animal sources such as,
Ambergris, ambergris are expelled by the whale sperm. It is often referred to as ‘Amber’ in perfume.
Castoreum can be acquired from the odorous sac of a beaver.
Civet often referred in perfume as musk is obtained from the Viverridae or Mongoose animal.

Lichens generally include oakmoss and treemoss.
Aside from its natural aroma substances modern perfumes mostly contains synthetic aromas. But the best smell of a perfume is when it is made with natural scents.
